When we build STRONG FOUNDATIONS in READING, WRITING, and MATH, the result will be students who have the skills and confidence to achieve advanced learning, succeed in communication, and thrive in future work opportunities.
As your trustee, “I’ll work hard to find support for students struggling with basic reading and math, so challenges in foundational skills are a speed bump instead of a roadblock to future success.”
We need to make sure our schools are using the most effective, evidence based practices for teaching literacy, evaluating and tracking student progress.
Local education faculties to align their programs to ensure graduates start their teaching career with a toolbox full of the most effective methods for teaching.
When we don’t master the foundational skills we limit our success in key areas such as communication and managing our resources. When these essential building blocks are firmly established, we can go beyond the basics and excel in what we love like Music or STEM.
Our education system is in a crisis of trust. We need to rebuild that trust so parents and education partners can focus on supporting every student’s success.
Clear communication is an essential starting point for parents to be successful advocates and reliable partners in their child’s academic success
I’ll push for clear and easy exchange of information between families and education partners because you have to build a bridge before you can walk on it.
“As trustee I will focus on bringing the conversation back to practical, respectful, approaches to resolving difficult issues.”
For children to focus on learning, we need classrooms to be a respectful environment with minimal disruption and most of all, free from physical harm to students, teachers and educational assistants.
Teachers and educational assistants who are dealing with increasing disruption, disrespect and physical harm in school, struggle to teach and at the same time, we are losing many great teachers and EA’s that are essential to our schools’ success.
I will push to ensure we are putting the physical safety of students and staff front and centre as we work to improve the classroom for all while carefully considering classroom complexity.
I will work with school administrators to respond to the urgent challenges in our classrooms and ensure our funding and policy choices reflect safe and respectful classrooms as a priority.
Engaging with parents and the broader community is crucial for reinforcing safety standards and expectations. Together, we can build a culture of respect and accountability that benefits everyone within the school system, ensuring sustained improvements.
I will work hard to ensure these essentials remain my top priority—because when you miss out on the fundamentals
you carry that with you as you move forward
